The best Mario game for the NES, hands down. This game introduced the overhead map concept to the Mario series and also gave us "Mariomorphs", where our good ol' plummer friend can turn into a Raccoon-Man" and the like. Being able to choose your level via the new map idea was brilliant, and kept you guessing the entire time. My main experience with this game was the Japanese version, so I can't honestly comment on the storyline much - I didn't know it! No really, I have actually played the US version since, and in fact the one I own is the US version, but I played the Japanese version in the 80's for approx. 6,592 hours. Simply perfect NES action/adventure game.
