The granddaddy of all modern adventure/strategy/RPG games. Ok, not really as much RPG, but still. But definitely the best adventure/strategy game for the NES ever made. In 1986, a game of this scale was absurd, and it kept millions up late trying to beat it - myself included. Countless puzzles, a huge map to explore, hidden and secret items, various baddies and bosses and the ability to purchase items & power ups helped Zelda set the standard that all adventure/strategy games to come had to adhere to, and still do to this day. Being able to save your game's progress in 1986 also blew people away, by the way! And the batteries, for saving games, installed in these cartridges most all still work to this day (mine does). The graphics were darn nice, tho not ultra-sensational. Gameplay and strategy were the focus here, and both were executed geniusly. One of my all time faves.
