Right off the bat, one of the most disappointing sequels in video game history. Good by games in general standards, lukewarm by Zelda standards. The eternal question: Why did Nintendo switch to the side action platform for this well anticipated follow up to one of the most successful games in history when PEOPLE ALREADY LIKED THE OVERHEAD PLATFORM FROM ZELDA I? No one seems to know. However, that switch combined with shoddy graphics, a tasteless soundtrack, and very limited gameplay puts this in my book of "Oh man!!!" games. Ouch ouch ouch. I still play it, I am glad I own it, but yipes it's not really very good. The saving grace is that in this game, the concept of speaking to other characters you meet was introduced. This was a clever way to add dynamics to the storyline as well as a good way to get hints throughout. Thank god the follow up game was as good as it was: Zelda: A Link To The Past (or "Zelda III") - because I am sure the future of the Zelda series was in question after this one.
NINO PS: I have the more limited Zelda II gold shiny cartridge too - go me. |
